Police investigating death of woman found unresponsive in Westside home with child

A 22-year-old Jacksonville woman died Saturday night in a home on Jacksonville's far Westside in what police described as suspicious circumstances.

Sgt. Shawn Coarsey of the Sheriff's Office said friends who hadn't heard from the woman for about two days attempted to force their way into the home in the 5600 block of Chirping Way, then called police at about 8 p.m. The woman was found unresponsive in the bathroom, Coarsey said, along with her 18-month-old son, who was also in the bathroom. The child was in good condition, Coarsey said, but appeared to be hungry.

Coarsey said the woman was transported to a hospital, where she died. No cause of death will be determined until an autopsy is performed, Coasey said. He said there was evidence at the scene that police believe may indicate foul play.

Coarsey said the woman's boyfriend, who had been a resident of the home, is currently incarcerated. No arrests have been made.
